An individualized education program (IEP) is an educational program that has been designed to meet the unique needs of a special education student.
Section 504 is a civil rights law aimed at ensuring that a child with a qualified disability has the same opportunities to attend school as students who do not have disabilities. The disabling condition is a mental or physical condition that has an impact on one or more major life activities.
An IEP, on the other hand, is required by the Individuals with Disabilities Act (IDEA) for students whose disabilities adversely affect their educational performance. If the student qualifies for special education under the IDEA, the school must create an IEP. The IEP is a benefit that includes specialized instruction and related services for the student.
You have the right to request an IEP meeting at any time! The school district must convene an IEP team meeting within 30 days of a parent request. It is best that you make your request in writing via email or fax to document your request date.
